SKARDU (Lord Media): Work has commenced on the expansion of Skardu International Airport to transform it into a modern gateway for tourists. A spokesperson for the Pakistan Airports Authority stated that the project aims to enhance tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan while providing passengers with modern and improved travel facilities.
According to spokesperson Saifullah Khan, the expansion plan will increase the terminal building’s area from 21,000 square feet to 39,000 square feet. The seating capacity in the departure lounge will be expanded from 300 to 900 passengers, while the arrival lounge capacity will increase from 80 to 200 passengers.
The project will also see the number of check-in and briefing counters rise from 6 to 10, and vehicle parking capacity will expand from 200 to 600. Additionally, a modern cargo office block will be constructed to enhance the airport’s operational capacity.
The spokesperson noted that the completion of Skardu International Airport’s expansion will provide tourists and other passengers with modern and improved travel facilities, while also aiding in the promotion of tourism, economic activities, and air connectivity in Gilgit-Baltistan.
