NEW DELHI (Lord Media): Following the removal of Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Sutlej’ from an OTT platform, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has announced plans to publicly screen it. The committee stated that blocking access to the film, which is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, equates to suppressing an important chapter of history.
Directed by Honey Trehan, the film was initially titled ‘Punjab 95’. Diljit Dosanjh and Arjun Rampal played the lead roles. After a prolonged dispute with the censor board, the film was released on Zee5 in India under the name ‘Sutlej’, but its streaming was halted just two days later.
In response to the suspension, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee announced plans to organize public screenings at various locations. Committee President Harmeet Singh Kalka stated that the film highlights the struggle of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who gathered evidence of extrajudicial killings in Punjab and raised the issue globally.
Harmeet Singh Kalka further mentioned that keeping this story away from the public is unjust, which has caused concern within the Sikh community. Members of the Gurdwara Committee have been instructed to download the film and arrange screenings in their areas. There are also plans to hold seminars on Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life in schools and colleges under the committee’s administration.
The DSGMC President emphasized that Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life is an example of how an individual can bring significant change in society. Collective efforts can yield more positive results.
