Nepal’s deadliest elephant kills four from same family

KATHMANDU (Lord Media): A dangerous elephant named ‘Dhurbe’ from Chitwan National Park has been a threat to a family for the past 14 years. In 2012, the elephant killed a couple, and in 2026, it killed two more members of the same family, bringing the total to four family members lost to its attacks.

According to official records, Dhurbe has killed 25 people, making it Nepal’s most dangerous elephant.

Shanchara Bote stated that after the elephant killed their parents in 2012, they left their home and started a new life in Jagatpur, but the elephant attacked there as well.

Shanchara’s 25-year-old daughter-in-law and four-year-old grandson were crushed to death by the elephant. The quick thinking of his wife saved the rest of the family.

According to Chitwan National Park, Dhurbe began its attacks in 2010 and has claimed 25 lives so far. An attempt to capture it in 2012 failed.

Local residents protested, accusing park management of negligence. The local population has demanded effective measures from the government.
