Former Iranian Supreme Leader to be buried in Mashhad today

TEHRAN (Lord Media): Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, will be laid to rest today in his hometown of Mashhad, within the grounds of the Imam Reza Shrine. The burial ceremonies mark the culmination of several days of mourning and religious rituals observed in both Iran and Iraq.

According to Iranian media, the bodies of Seyyed Ali Khamenei and his family were transported from Iraq to Iran last night after final religious rites were performed in Najaf and Karbala. In Najaf, millions attended the funeral prayer at the Shrine of Hazrat Ali, followed by the transfer of the body to Karbala, where prayers were also held at the Shrine of Imam Hussain.

Iranian media claims that approximately 4 million mourners participated in the funeral procession in Karbala, with recitations and lamentations continuing throughout the night at the Shrine of Imam Hussain. However, these figures have not been independently verified.

Following the completion of religious ceremonies in Iraq, the body was moved to Iran, where it will be interred today in Mashhad with state honors and religious rites. Thousands of mourners from across Iran are arriving in Mashhad for the occasion.
