Islamabad (Lord Media): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed for transparency and timely completion of a 100 MW solar project in Gilgit-Baltistan. A review meeting chaired by the Prime Minister assessed the project’s progress and future stages.
The Prime Minister emphasized that promoting environmentally friendly, affordable, and sustainable energy is a key component of the national energy policy. He described the project as a gift from the federal government to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. He instructed the Power Division to ensure transparency in the installation and completion of the project.
During the briefing, it was revealed that under the project, solar systems with a capacity of 18 MW will be installed on the rooftops of 499 government buildings in Gilgit-Baltistan by December 2026. Additionally, a PC-1 for an 82 MW utility-scale solar project has been submitted to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval.
The briefing further disclosed that the 82 MW solar project will benefit approximately 1.3 million people. This initiative is expected to enhance the quality of electricity supply in Gilgit-Baltistan and aid in eliminating load shedding.
Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Leghari, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, and senior government officials attended the meeting.
