Lahore (Lord Media): An audit report presented in the Punjab Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee-I meeting has uncovered the purchase of substandard materials at inflated prices. The meeting, chaired by Chairperson Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain Chhachhar, was attended by officials from the Punjab Assembly and other government departments.
The session reviewed audit paras of departments including the Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department’s subsidiary, WASA. The Director General of WASA was reprimanded for excessive payments due to over-measurement of manholes.
Chairperson Public Accounts Committee Iftikhar Chhachhar stated that the negligence of WASA’s engineer is causing a waste of public funds. The DG WASA explained that delays by contractors in completing work have increased costs.
The committee has directed the Finance Department to conduct an inquiry into the irregularities and submit a report within two days.
