PM launches top council to tackle population growth

Islamabad (Lord Media): The federal government has established the National Population Council to address the rising population in the country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will lead the council, which includes Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and top federal and provincial leaders.

The official notification for the establishment of the National Population Council has been issued. According to the notification, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will serve as the chairman, with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as a member. The chief ministers of all four provinces, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan are also included in the council.

Additionally, the federal ministers for finance, planning, health, education, law, information, and religious affairs have been appointed as members of the council. The government states that this council will develop a comprehensive policy to control the growing population and foster coordination between federal and provincial governments.

The notification also mentions that religious scholars, civil society, and the private sector will be involved in the national campaign to provide effective awareness regarding family planning and population issues. The council will review the implementation of the national population policy and formulate recommendations to strengthen cooperation.
