New York (Lord Media): Norway advanced to the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time, defeating Brazil 2-1 thanks to two late goals by Erling Haaland. The match, held at MetLife Stadium, saw Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland deliver a stellar performance by saving a penalty from Bruno Guimaraes.
Haaland shocked Brazil by scoring twice in the final 11 minutes. Brazil’s Neymar managed to score a penalty in the dying moments, making the final score 2-1.
Norway will now face either co-host Mexico or England in Miami on July 11. This marks the sixth time Brazil has been defeated by a European team.
In the Brazilian squad, Gabriel Martinelli replaced Lucas Paqueta, while Norway benefited from the return of Julian Ryerson.
Brazil was awarded a penalty in the first half, but Nyland thwarted Guimaraes’ attempt. Haaland’s second goal in the 90th minute secured Norway’s lead.
