Lahore (Lord Media): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that, for the first time in history, electric buses will be introduced in rural areas. On World Rural Development Day, she praised the role of rural communities in national development, stating that a strong rural economy is essential for a prosperous Pakistan.
The Chief Minister emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture in rural development, describing villages as the soul of society. She added that the Punjab government is committed to empowering rural communities by providing education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the Clean Punjab Program is fully operational in villages, and electric buses are being introduced for the first time.
She mentioned the ‘Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar’ scheme, launched for unemployed individuals in rural areas, and ongoing work on the Model Village Project to provide basic urban facilities to over 2,400 villages.
The Chief Minister further noted that under the Local Roads Program, construction and repair of over 3,300 kilometers of rural roads are underway. Additionally, the ‘Sohna Punjab De’ program focuses on constructing paved streets, road restoration, and tree plantation in villages.
