Islamabad (Lord Media): The National Assembly has passed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Amendment Bill 2026 with a majority vote, granting legal protection to FBR’s past orders, notifications, and agreements. The session, chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, saw Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb present the bill, which was subsequently approved by the house.
The bill introduces several significant amendments to the FBR Act 2007, including the removal of certain clauses and the addition of new provisions. These amendments are made in light of the Supreme Court’s Mustafa Impex decision, aimed at maintaining administrative continuity within the institution and eliminating legal ambiguities.
Amendments to sections two, five, and six of the FBR Act have been approved. The amendment removes the clause related to the policy board, while a new section twenty-five validates all past appointments and decisions.
