Islamabad (Lord Media): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has demanded the government separate the Climate Support Levy from the Petroleum Levy. A government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with PPP leaders Sherry Rehman and Saleem Mandviwalla. The PPP expressed concerns over budget cuts related to climate change, asserting that revenue from the Climate Support Levy should be allocated to environmental projects.
PPP leaders stated that the public is being charged the Climate Support Levy, and the government must clarify where this money is being utilized. They further highlighted that the risk of flooding due to melting glaciers is increasing, making it crucial to transparently outline the use of the Climate Support Levy.
Saleem Mandviwalla emphasized that the purpose of the funds collected through the Climate Support Levy should be clear. The PPP proposed imposing a tax instead of the Climate Levy, to which the government requested time for consideration.
