Pakistan has cautioned against any potential escalation from India, stating that it had already exposed what it described as “hostile intentions” before any further developments following the Pahalgam incident.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said on May 2, 2025, that recent Indian actions pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
He stated that Pakistan does not seek escalation of tensions with India, adding that this position has been consistently conveyed at all diplomatic levels.
The envoy reiterated that Pakistan remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity under all circumstances.
He further warned that any form of water-related aggression from India would be treated as an act of war, underscoring the sensitivity of shared water resources between the two countries.
At the same time, the Pakistani diplomat said Islamabad remains open to peaceful resolution of disputes and is willing to accept United Nations mediation to de-escalate tensions.
Pakistan’s statement comes amid heightened regional concerns, with officials stressing the importance of restraint and dialogue to avoid further deterioration of the security situation in South Asia.
