Pakistan marks 60 years ties with Singapore through Qawwali night

The Pakistan High Commission in Singapore, in collaboration with The Esplanade Theatre, organized a special evening of Qawwali titled “At the Feet of the Beloved” to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore.

The event was held at The Esplanade and drew a large and diverse audience, including diplomats, business leaders, art enthusiasts, members of the Pakistani diaspora, and the general public, reflecting strong interest in Pakistan’s cultural heritage.

The highlight of the evening was a performance by renowned Qawwals Rizwan and Muazzam, nephews of legendary Sufi singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Their powerful and soulful renditions carried forward a centuries-old Sufi musical tradition and received an enthusiastic response from the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq said that Qawwali, rooted in Sufi teachings, represents love, harmony and spiritual devotion. She added that such cultural expressions act as a bridge between societies and help strengthen people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Singapore.

A reception for diplomats and distinguished guests was also hosted on the sidelines of the event.

The evening was widely seen as a successful example of cultural diplomacy, showcasing Pakistan’s artistic heritage and reinforcing its commitment to deepening bilateral relations through cultural engagement.
