Babar Azam one run away from new PSL milestone

Babar Azam has equalled Fakhar Zaman’s record for the highest number of runs scored in a single season of the Pakistan Super League.

Fakhar Zaman had scored 588 runs in 13 innings for Lahore Qalandars during the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Babar Azam matched the record in just 10 innings and now requires only one more run in the final to become the outright holder of the milestone.

The Peshawar Zalmi captain achieved the feat after scoring a brilliant 103 off 59 balls against Islamabad United at National Stadium Karachi. His innings included 12 fours and four sixes.

Babar also became the first batter to score two centuries in the ongoing PSL season. He completed his century in 57 deliveries.

With the knock, Babar Azam equalled Usman Khan’s record of four PSL centuries, the joint-highest in the league’s history.

Although Babar has overtaken teammate Kusal Mendis in the race for most runs this season, Mendis remains in contention with 541 runs and is only 48 runs away from the all-time single-season record.

Babar Azam now tops the charts with 588 runs and has also become the first batter in PSL history to score more than 500 runs in four separate seasons — 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2026.

Mohammad Rizwan has crossed the 500-run mark in three PSL seasons, while Fakhar Zaman and Kusal Mendis have achieved the feat once each.
