Pakistani runners made a strong mark at the 46th edition of the London Marathon, one of the world’s premier long-distance events, delivering impressive performances and drawing attention with their endurance and discipline.
More than 30 athletes from Pakistan and the overseas Pakistani community participated in the global race, successfully completing the marathon and showcasing notable fitness, strategy and consistency.
Among them, UK-based runner Abdullah Muhammad Athar emerged as the fastest Pakistani participant, finishing the race in 2 hours, 39 minutes and 53 seconds.
Athar’s performance stood out for its well-balanced pacing. He completed the first 10 kilometres in 39 minutes and 7 seconds, while crossing the half marathon mark in 1 hour, 18 minutes and 23 seconds.
Throughout the race, his average pace ranged between 3:41 and 3:49 per kilometre, reflecting a controlled and strategic approach. Unlike many runners who struggle in the final stages, Athar maintained composure and sustained his pace, finishing the race at nearly four minutes per kilometre.
Speaking after the race, Athar described running as more than just a sport, calling it a source of discipline and mental clarity. He noted that a year ago he could complete 10 kilometres in 37 minutes, and achieving a full marathon at a similar pace marked a significant personal milestone.
