President Zardari oversees key Pakistan-China MoUs on desalination, agri-tech, tea cooperation

President Asif Ali Zardari witnessed the signing of three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Pakistani and Chinese entities on desalination, agricultural technology and tea industry cooperation, underscoring a push to deepen practical collaboration in critical economic sectors.

The agreements were signed during the president’s visit to China and reflect efforts to address water scarcity, enhance agricultural productivity and expand bilateral trade linkages.

The first MoU was concluded between the Local Government, Government of Sindh and Lucion Environmental Technology Group for a seawater desalination project in Karachi aimed at augmenting the city’s water supply. The agreement was signed by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Lucion Chairman Yuhui.

The second MoU, signed between the Local Government, Government of Sindh and Longping High-Tech Information Company, focuses on cooperation in agricultural technology. It was signed by Sharjeel Inam Memon and Chen Zhixin, chairman of the Chinese company.

The third agreement, related to the tea sector, was signed between MESKAY & FEMTEE Trading Company, Hunan Tea Group and Jiaolong International Technology (Hainan). The MoU aims to promote cooperation across the tea industry, support its development in both countries and strengthen economic and people-to-people ties. It was signed by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and representatives of the Chinese firms.

Sindh Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Investment Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Chief Secretary Sindh Ali Hassan Barohi, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi were also present on the occasion.
