I don’t deserve a spot in team right now: Rizwan

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan has admitted that his recent performances do not justify a place in the national side, stressing that he remains committed to improving rather than losing hope.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Stadium Karachi, Rizwan revealed that he had openly acknowledged his form concerns even during the Big Bash League. “I told Haris Rauf myself that with my current performance, I don’t deserve a place in the team, but that doesn’t mean I will give up,” he said.

Addressing journalists, Rizwan recalled past criticism about his batting ability. “I am the same person you once said couldn’t hit sixes,” he remarked, highlighting his journey through scrutiny and improvement.

The wicketkeeper-batter admitted mistakes, saying players are human and prone to errors. “I love cricket; it’s all I know. Perhaps my hard work was not enough, which is why my performance suffered,” he added.

Rizwan further disclosed that he had repeatedly conveyed to the team leadership that if his form did not improve, another player should be given an opportunity.
