Rizwan admits poor form behind Rawalpindi’s PSL exit

Captain Mohammad Rizwan has attributed his team’s disappointing campaign in the Pakistan Super League to his own poor form, following their elimination from the tournament after a seventh consecutive defeat.

Speaking at a press conference after losing to Lahore Qalandars, Rizwan admitted that his individual performances had not been up to the mark, which directly impacted the team’s results. He acknowledged that there must have been shortcomings on his part that led to the outcome.

The skipper said he had been opening the innings alongside a young player and, while he may have personal preferences regarding his batting position, team decisions are always made collectively.

Rizwan noted that it becomes difficult to identify positives when a team is consistently losing, though he added that some aspects remained encouraging. He remarked that there were no obvious weaknesses in the squad but felt that luck had not been on their side.

Reflecting on leadership, Rizwan said a captain should not be judged solely on results, emphasizing that a leader can only make efforts, while mistakes can still occur beyond control.

On his personal form, he reiterated that performance remains key to retaining a place in the national side, but stressed that he would not lose hope. Calling cricket his passion, he expressed determination to work hard and make a strong comeback.

Rizwan described the phase as the toughest of his career, openly accepting responsibility for the team’s failure and vowing to improve through hard work.

In the ongoing HBL PSL 11, Lahore Qalandars defeated Rawalpindi by 32 runs to knock them out of the tournament. The side failed to register a single win in the competition, suffering seven straight losses.
