China-Italy boost local government and cultural exchanges

The 4th China–Italy Friendship Cities Cooperation Dialogue was held in Rome, while the 2026 China–Italy Historical and Cultural Cities Dialogue took place in Perugia, aiming to strengthen friendship and expand practical cooperation between the two countries.

The events were jointly organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Chinese Embassy in Italy, the Italian Cities Association, the Italy-China Cultural Exchange Association, and the Perugia Provincial Government.

During the Rome dialogue, representatives from 14 Chinese provinces and cities and 18 Italian regions engaged in in-depth discussions on urban governance, cultural heritage protection, and industrial cooperation.

Delegates from both sides noted that amid growing global uncertainties, China and Italy should enhance dialogue, deepen cooperation, safeguard international peace, and pursue shared development goals.

Participants also emphasized the importance of carrying forward the spirit of the Silk Road and promoting high-quality local-level cooperation to deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

At the Perugia forum focused on historical and cultural cities, discussions centered on ceramic culture, with both sides expressing willingness to expand cultural exchanges and mutual learning between cities.

Delegates also reiterated support for implementing the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by China.

During the two events, multiple cooperation agreements were signed between local governments of China and Italy, further strengthening subnational ties and institutional collaboration.
