China terms US–Iran talks in Pakistan a step towards de-escalation

China has described recent United States–Iran discussions held in Pakistan as a positive development toward easing regional tensions, urging all sides to remain committed to diplomacy and ceasefire understandings, according to remarks made by the Chinese foreign ministry on Monday.

At a regular press briefing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the talks signalled movement in the right direction amid continued volatility in the region. He stressed that political engagement remains the only viable path to resolving disputes and preventing renewed escalation.

“China hopes that all relevant parties will follow the temporary ceasefire arrangement and stay committed to political and diplomatic channels in settling disputes, so as to avoid flare-ups of fighting again and create conditions for the early restoration of peace and tranquility in the Gulf region,” the spokesperson said.

Beijing reiterated its call for sustained diplomatic engagement, urging adherence to existing ceasefire understandings and warning against any steps that could undermine fragile stability in the Gulf region.

The remarks come as international actors continue efforts to prevent further escalation between the United States and Iran, with regional stakeholders closely monitoring the diplomatic track.
