Indonesia backs China-Pakistan peace initiative

Initiatives by partners in the region, including China and Pakistan, constitute practical steps towards permanent cessation of hostilities, peace talks, protection of civilians, and normalized economic relations, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said in a statement to Chinese official media.

Since the very beginning, Indonesia has called on the conflicting sides to immediately cease hostilities and return to the negotiating table in efforts to resolve their issues in accordance with international law, Sugiono said.

He noted that China and Pakistan issued a five-point initiative on March 31, which he said reflects international consensus for a ceasefire and broader peace efforts.

Sugiono said Indonesia welcomes such initiatives that prioritize dialogue and diplomacy, adding that they help create conditions conducive to broader regional peace, stability, and security.
