The Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of a dedicated cybercrime unit in the province, according to an official statement.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister, where key measures related to cybercrime prevention and response were reviewed and approved.
Officials briefed the meeting that the new Punjab Cyber Crime Unit would eliminate the need for children and other victims of blackmail and harassment to visit police stations or government offices to file complaints.
It was further informed that mobile units would be deployed to reach affected minors, while victims particularly women would also be able to lodge complaints through a virtual police station system.
Authorities said the identity of complainants would be kept strictly confidential.
The meeting also decided to introduce new legislation aimed at ensuring strict punishment for perpetrators involved in online harassment and related crimes, strengthening the province’s response framework to digital abuse.
