China has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire in the Iran conflict and expressed support for the mediation efforts of countries like Pakistan, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said Wednesday.
Spokesperson Mao Ning stated that Iran and the United States have agreed to a two-week ceasefire less than two hours before the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump. Negotiations between the two countries are scheduled to be held in Pakistan.
Mao Ning added that China has consistently advocated ending military operations and resolving disputes through political and diplomatic channels to achieve lasting peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf region. The spokesperson also noted that China has made its own contributions to this effort.
