David Warner, captain of Karachi Kings, has expressed strong admiration for Pakistan’s cricketing talent, particularly its fast bowlers, describing them as exceptional and consistently capable of delivering high pace.
In an exclusive interview with local news outlet, Warner said he avoids comparing different T20 leagues, noting that each has its own identity. However, he highlighted that Pakistan stands out for producing quality fast bowlers, many of whom regularly bowl at speeds exceeding 140 km/h, which he termed remarkable.
Speaking about his favourite left-handed Pakistani batters, Warner mentioned Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub, praising their aggressive style. He noted that both players are particularly strong in playing the pull shot and share similarities with his own approach.
Commenting on bowlers, Warner said he does not consider any particular bowler as difficult, but acknowledged Shaheen Shah Afridi as a highly skilled pacer. He also praised his teammates, including Hasan Ali, Mir Hamza, and Abbas Afridi, for their bowling abilities.
Warner appreciated Salman Ali Agha for his experience and understanding of the game, saying his presence provides valuable support on the field and helps in reading match situations effectively.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Warner said the primary objective in every tournament is to reach the final. He admitted feeling slightly nervous during a recent low-scoring chase against Lahore Qalandars but credited his players, especially the spinners, for delivering a strong performance and turning the match in their favour.
He said chasing smaller targets can sometimes be challenging, but the team remained focused until the end. He also highlighted the contribution of Muhammad Abbas, who secured victory with two boundaries in his debut match.
Warner noted that the team’s spinners have been outstanding in the early matches, playing a crucial role in controlling the middle overs and ensuring victories.
Talking about life off the field, Warner revealed that he has yet to try Pakistani cuisine but plans to do so with his friend Usman Khawaja during his stay.
On emerging talent, he singled out Saad Baig, saying the young player has shown significant improvement and a strong desire to perform. Warner noted that Baig appeared more confident and positive compared to the previous season.
Regarding matches without spectators, Warner said such conditions are unusual but not unfamiliar. He emphasized the importance of entertaining fans through television and expressed hope that crowds would soon return to stadiums, bringing back the unique energy they provide.
He added that he aims to play impactful innings in the tournament and will strive to score a century whenever he gets the opportunity.
