IRGC warns Israeli, US universities in region are ‘legitimate targets’

Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Sunday warned that it now considers all Israeli and U.S. universities in West Asia as “legitimate targets,” following reported attacks on Iranian academic institutions.

The IRGC issued the warning through its official news outlet Sepah News, citing strikes on the University of Science and Technology Tehran on Saturday and the Isfahan University of Technology earlier in the week.

According to the statement, all Israeli and U.S. universities will remain potential targets until Iran carries out retaliatory actions against two such institutions. The IRGC also advised staff, students and nearby residents to stay at least one kilometre away from these facilities to avoid harm.

The group further demanded that Washington issue an official condemnation of the attacks by a specified deadline if it seeks to prevent further escalation involving regional educational institutions.

In parallel, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a post on social media platform X that the targeted universities were among several academic and research centres struck over the past month. He alleged that the attacks are part of a broader effort to undermine Iran’s scientific infrastructure and cultural heritage.

The developments come amid ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States that began on February 28. Hostilities have continued for 30 days with no ceasefire breakthrough, raising concerns over further regional escalation.
