China has welcomed the temporary ceasefire agreement reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan, expressing hope for sustained peace and stability in the region.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks during a regular press briefing after both countries announced a suspension of military operations during the Eid-ul-Fitr period.
Lin Jian said China hopes that Pakistan and Afghanistan will exercise calm and restraint, resume peace talks promptly, and work towards a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire through dialogue.
He further stated that Beijing encourages both sides to resolve their differences peacefully and to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.
China also appreciated the efforts of relevant Islamic countries in facilitating the ceasefire process, noting that it has been engaging through its own channels to support mediation efforts.
Lin added that China remains willing to continue playing a constructive role in promoting long-term stability between the two neighbouring countries.
