PHF summons national hockey team over poor arrangements in Australia

The Pakistan Hockey Federation has summoned national hockey team players and management to address complaints regarding substandard arrangements during the recent Australia tour.

Videos from the tour highlighted poor facilities provided to the players, while captain Imad Butt said upon returning home that players had to wash their own clothes and utensils, describing the accommodation as inadequate. He also refused to work with the current management unless immediate action was taken, noting that limited time remained before the World Cup qualifiers.

The matter had also drawn the attention of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, prompting the PHF to call players and officials for a detailed discussion. According to sources, senior players including Imad Butt and Hanan Shahid, as well as head coach Tahir Zaman, coach Usman, and Zishan Ashraf, have been summoned for a meeting this evening.

PHF officials said the session will review the complaints of players and hear explanations from the management before deciding corrective measures. The team is expected to be dispatched to Egypt within two days, where they are scheduled to participate in the World Cup qualifying round next week.

Sources added that PHF President Tariq Bugti will discuss accommodation, team management, and other operational issues in detail, and consult with his advisory team before taking action against those found responsible. Players will also be questioned regarding their poor performance and the large number of goals conceded during the Australia tour. Decisions will be announced at a press conference by PHF President Tariq Bugti and Secretary Rana Mujahid.
