Pakistan, India exchange annual lists of nuclear installations

Pakistan and India have exchanged the lists of their respective nuclear installations and facilities, officials confirmed on Thursday. The exchange was conducted under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between the two countries.

The list of Pakistan’s nuclear installations and facilities was officially handed over to a representative of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the same time, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs provided Pakistan’s representative in New Delhi with the list of India’s nuclear installations and facilities.

Under the 1988 agreement, which entered into force on 27 January 1991, both countries are required to inform each other of their nuclear installations and facilities on 1 January every year. This practice has been followed since 1 January 1992.

The annual exchange is intended to reinforce transparency and reduce the risk of accidental or intentional attacks on nuclear facilities in the region.
