Islamabad Police Shut Down Cybercrime Wing, Transfer Officers to CTD

The Islamabad Police have formally abolished their Cybercrime Wing, transferring all officers and constables from the unit to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), officials familiar with the development said on Thursday.

According to sources, ongoing cases and inquiries previously handled by the Cybercrime Wing have been shifted to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), which will now oversee all pending matters.

A total of 22 personnel have been transferred to CTD, as per the official notification. Those moved include Inspector Asif Khan, the in-charge of the Cybercrime Wing, along with three sub-inspectors, two assistant sub-inspectors, six lady constables, and ten male constables.

Sources said the now-defunct wing had 112 pending complaints, while challans in two cases had already been submitted to courts. Another 20 complaints were in the inquiry stage, and around 90 complaints were under various phases of legal action.

Officials said the restructuring aims to streamline cybercrime investigations under a centralised federal mechanism.
