Mikaeel Ali Baig reaches ITF World Junior Tennis final in Islamabad

Pakistan’s rising tennis talent Mikaeel Ali Baig stormed into the boys’ singles final of the ITF Pakistan Ali Embroidery World Junior Tennis Championship J-30 (Leg-2), being played at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad. Lithuania’s Kristijonas Milasausks also booked his place in the title clash after winning his semi-final encounter.

According to details shared by the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), junior players from 10 countries – including China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lithuania, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan – are featuring in the prestigious ITF junior event. The championship is sponsored by Ali Embroidery, National Foods, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

In the boys’ singles semi-finals, Pakistan’s Mikaeel Ali Baig defeated compatriot Ahtesham Humayun 6-3, 6-4, while Lithuania’s Kristijonas Milasausks outclassed Pakistan’s Amir Mazari 6-2, 6-1 to set up an exciting Pakistan–Lithuania final.

Turkey continued to dominate the girls’ events, securing both spots in the singles final. Ecrin Lal Yavuz overpowered Kazakhstan’s Karolina Ligai 6-0, 6-4, while Serife Pelin Sari defeated fellow Turkish player Deniz Cakil 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles, Pakistan showed strength in the boys’ category. The pair of Ahtesham Humayun and Hamza Roman beat Mikaeel Ali Baig (Pakistan) and Timur Gordeev (Russia) 6-3, 6-3, while Abubakar Talha and Zohaib Afzal Malik overcame M. Hazia Asim and M. Hassan Usmani 6-2, 7-5.

Kazakhstan and Turkey dominated the girls’ doubles fixtures. Kazakh duo Polina and Karolina Ligai defeated Zihan Feng (China) and Serife Pelin Sari (Turkey) 6-3, 6-4, while the Turkish team of Deniz Cakil and Ecrin Lal beat Russia’s Daria Bogacheva and Varvara Rubtsova 6-3, 6-3.
