New cricket format ‘Test Twenty’ announced, to debut in India in 2026

After the success of T10, T20, and traditional Test cricket, a new format named “Test Twenty” has been officially launched, promising to bring a fresh twist to the game.

According to organizers, the first two editions of the new format will be held in India, with the inaugural tournament scheduled for January 2026.

The format was unveiled at a launch event attended by former international stars Matthew Hayden, Harbhajan Singh, Sir Clive Lloyd, and AB de Villiers, who joined the organizers in promoting the concept.

Each match in the “Test Twenty” format will feature a total of 80 overs, divided into two innings of 20 overs per team. The aggregate score from both innings will decide the winner, allowing for all possible outcomes win, loss, tie, or draw similar to traditional Test cricket.

Organizers said the new format aims to blend the strategic depth of Test matches with the fast-paced excitement of T20 cricket, offering fans a “best of both worlds” experience.

The introduction of “Test Twenty” is being seen as an ambitious attempt to revitalize cricket’s longer format while keeping it engaging for modern audiences.
