Pakistan unveils new oil import policy

ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): Pakistan has decided to introduce a new policy framework for oil imports. Under this framework, international oil suppliers will be allowed to bring petroleum products into the country, store them in customs-bonded storage, and sell to local oil marketing companies and refineries or re-export them.

This policy framework aims to attract foreign suppliers and strengthen the country’s energy security buffer. New regulations for foreign suppliers have been introduced under the import policy 2026 through customs-bonded storage.

The guidelines provide international suppliers a mechanism to maintain stocks in Pakistan without immediately activating domestic duties and taxes. They also offer greater flexibility in deciding whether to supply the local market or re-export their stock.
