ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar clarified that the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement is purely defensive and not against any country. The agreement aims to strengthen ongoing efforts for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Ishaq Dar stated in a post that the agreement was signed on August 7, 2026, in Makkah between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. According to him, the agreement reflects the depth of fraternal relations among the leadership and peoples of the three countries.
Dar mentioned that the Makkah Agreement is the result of years of negotiation efforts aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation to address peace and security challenges. He clarified that the agreement does not terminate or replace any bilateral or multilateral agreements.
The statement further noted that an external armed attack on one country will be considered an attack on all, aligning with the inherent right of defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
The Foreign Minister indicated that the agreement is open to regional countries willing to adhere to its principles, mutual respect, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
Turkiye’s Foreign Minister also hinted at Egypt’s imminent inclusion in the agreement, while Ishaq Dar stated that Pakistan will continue to cooperate with regional brotherly countries for lasting peace and stability.
