Delhi HC seeks response on Wangchuk hunger strike

DELHI (Lord Media): A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking immediate medical assistance for renowned social activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk, who is on a hunger strike. The plea requests that Wangchuk be force-fed if necessary to save his life.

Sonam Wangchuk has been on hunger strike for eighteen days, with his condition deteriorating daily. His protest is related to demands for educational reforms, action on the NEET UG paper leak, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The petition, filed by social activist and lawyer Rakesh Kumar Saini, states that Wangchuk’s life could be at risk if he continues the hunger strike. He has lost 8.5 kilograms and his blood pressure has dropped to 109/70.

The court has ordered the central and Delhi governments to submit a response, considering the seriousness of the matter. The case will be heard on Thursday.

Wangchuk began his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on June 28, supported by the Cockroach Janata Party. The organization has announced a march to Parliament on July 20, the first day of the monsoon session.

The petitioner has accused the government of remaining silent and treating Wangchuk like a criminal. Sonam Wangchuk is also associated with the character Phunsukh Wangdu from the film ‘3 Idiots,’ inspired by his life and educational philosophy.

In a video message on social media, Sonam Wangchuk stated that he is not a hero or a modern-day Gandhi, but fulfilling his responsibility as an ordinary citizen.
