US strikes target islands near Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN (Lord Media): Amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, attacks have occurred on Iran’s significant islands, Qeshm and Kish, in the Persian Gulf. According to Iranian media, multiple explosions were reported on Qeshm Island, while Kish Island’s power plant sustained damage from a U.S. attack.

Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that the U.S. targeted a location on Qeshm Island around 7 PM local time on Tuesday. The Hormozgan Governor’s Office claimed the attack was carried out by the U.S., though details of casualties or damages have not been released.

The Iranian news agency ‘Fars’ reported hearing several explosions on Qeshm Island around 6:45 PM. The Masan area of the island has reportedly been targeted multiple times in recent days.

‘Fars’ also reported that Kish Island’s power plant was damaged in the U.S. attack. According to the Kish Island Water and Power Engineering Company, a shell landed near the power plant, affecting the electrical installations.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed attacks on various targets in Iran, stating the operations aimed to weaken Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping. However, the U.S. military has not officially commented on the attacks on Qeshm or Kish Islands.

These attacks occur as U.S.-Iran tensions have intensified once again. U.S. President Donald Trump had initially indicated plans to reimpose a naval blockade against Iran but later retracted on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Iran claims to have retaliated against various targets in the region.

Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz, is Iran’s largest island, while Kish Island is known as a tourist hub but also hosts Iranian naval, radar, and air installations. Defense experts suggest targeting these islands indicates rising military tensions in the Persian Gulf.
