Minister, editors discuss media industry issues

ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, met with a delegation led by Kazim Khan, President of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE). The meeting focused on issues facing the newspaper industry, reforms in the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), budgets for news agencies, media house dues, and dummy newspapers.

The Federal Minister and CPNE officials agreed on implementing reforms in the Audit Bureau of Circulations system. The Information Minister stated that the government believes in a free, responsible, and robust print media, and consultations with all stakeholders to resolve industry issues will continue.

Attaullah Tarar further mentioned that necessary reforms in the Audit Bureau of Circulations, payment of media house dues, and matters related to news agencies will be prioritized. He assured full cooperation in resolving legitimate issues faced by journalistic institutions.

The CPNE delegation congratulated the new Principal Information Officer, Raeesa Adil, on assuming her responsibilities, expressing hope that her leadership will strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Information and the newspaper industry. The delegation also appreciated the services of the outgoing Principal Information Officer, Mubashir Hassan, and extended their best wishes. Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil, was also present at the meeting.
