UAE plans new Fujairah port to bypass Hormuz

DUBAI (Lord Media): The United Arab Emirates has decided to establish a new multipurpose port in the eastern coastal state of Fujairah to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Financial Times, the UAE has devised this plan to reduce reliance on Dubai ports and explore alternative trade routes.

The report states that the project will not only involve the construction of a new port but also the establishment of a modern container terminal at the existing Port of Fujairah to expand import and export activities.

The aim of the project is to lessen dependence on Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port and bypass the maritime trade route through the Strait of Hormuz. In recent months, maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has been affected due to tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, prompting the UAE to focus on alternative trade security routes.
