MASHHAD (Lord Media): Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was laid to rest within the shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad. According to Iranian media, his funeral prayer was led by his eldest son, Ayatollah Seyed Mostafa Khamenei.
Millions of mourners flooded the streets of Mashhad to bid farewell to the martyred Supreme Leader. Iranian media reported that funeral and burial ceremonies were held in Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad, with approximately 43 million people participating.
Ayatollah Khamenei’s body was transported from Najaf to Mashhad, Iran, escorted by Iranian Air Force planes to Mashhad Airport. Earlier, the body was taken to the shrines of Imam Hussein and Abbas in Karbala, where over 7 million mourners gathered.
There were concerns over potential threats from the U.S. and Israel targeting Iranian leadership during the funeral prayers following Ayatollah Khamenei’s death.
