Senate summons DG Haj over complaints

ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): The Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs has summoned DG Haj Makkah, Abdul Wahab Soomro, from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan due to poor arrangements during Haj and complaints from 12,479 pilgrims.

The meeting, chaired by Committee Chairman Senator Atta-ur-Rehman, included a briefing from officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs on the Haj 2026 operations. Officials acknowledged issues with buildings and travel during Haj.

Haj coordinator in Makkah stated that 12,479 complaints were received, and building owners were fined 510,000 rupees. Travel difficulties were addressed by providing additional buses.

Committee members pointed out discrepancies between bureaucratic recommendations and ground realities. They noted that pilgrims faced difficulties and that the DG Haj was informed but no solution was provided.

Members criticized the poor arrangements and alleged that Al-Raji Company is repeatedly awarded the catering contract. The committee decided to summon Abdul Wahab Soomro.
