ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): Sardar Akhtar Mengal, head of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), has submitted a cheque worth 7,892,725 rupees to the National Assembly Secretariat, returning the salary and allowances received during his tenure as a member of the National Assembly.
Mengal clarified in his letter that he is returning all salaries and allowances received from September 3, 2024, to February 11, 2026. He requested that the amount in his parliamentary bank account be transferred to the national treasury.
He stated that since resigning in protest in September 2024, he has not utilized any salary or allowance. Mengal emphasized his commitment to the principles of honesty, transparency, and accountability in public service.
It is noteworthy that Mengal resigned from the National Assembly on September 3, 2024, in protest against the parliamentary attitude towards Balochistan’s issues. His resignation was accepted by the Speaker on February 11, 2026.
Later, Mengal met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the current political situation in the country and the law and order situation in Balochistan. Both leaders expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation.
