Houthi attack in Yemen kills 14 soldiers

At least 14 Yemeni soldiers were killed and more than 20 others injured in an attack by Iran-backed Houthi re-bels on government forces in Yemen’s Red Sea province of Hodeidah, accord-ing to media reports.

The attack targeted government mili-tary positions on Mount Dabas in the Hays district, where intense shelling continued until Saturday, military and local sources said.

The assault is being described as the first major attack of its kind against the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces in the Hodeidah region in recent years.

The Houthis have been fighting Yemen’s internationally recognised government since 2015 in a conflict that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

The latest escalation comes amid con-tinued regional tensions and renewed concerns over the security situation in Yemen.
