Muzaffarabad (Lord Media): The final list of candidates for the 2026 general elections of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has been released. The Election Commission has fielded a total of 852 candidates across 45 constituencies, while over 320 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers.
According to statistics, 98 candidates will contest from 4 constituencies in Mirpur, 63 from 3 constituencies in Bhimber, and 135 from 6 constituencies in Kotli. Additionally, 83 candidates will participate from 3 constituencies in Bagh and Haveli, and 126 from 7 constituencies in Poonch and Sudhanoti. In Neelum district, 51 candidates will contest from 2 constituencies, 126 from 5 constituencies in Muzaffarabad district, and 34 from Jhelum Valley.
For the 12 reserved seats for Jammu and Kashmir refugees, 126 candidates will vie for positions. According to the Election Commission, electoral symbols have been allotted to 24 registered political parties, and symbols will soon be issued to independent candidates as well. Following the release of the final candidates list, election activities are expected to intensify.
