Salaried class tops taxpayers in fiscal 2025-26

Islamabad (Lord Media): In the fiscal year 2025-26, the salaried class emerged as the largest taxpayer in the country, contributing 633 billion U.S. dollars in income tax. Official figures reveal that this amount surpasses the total income tax collected from exporters, real estate, and the retail sector.

According to authorities, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) amassed a total revenue of 13,010 billion U.S. dollars during the fiscal year 2025-26. Exporters contributed 174 billion U.S. dollars, while the real estate sector paid 191 billion U.S. dollars in taxes.

The retail sector collected 25 billion U.S. dollars under Section 236-G and 45 billion U.S. dollars under Section 236-H of the Income Tax Ordinance.

For the fiscal year 2026-27, the government has set a tax collection target of 15,264 billion U.S. dollars for the FBR, aiming to expand the tax net as part of its strategy to achieve this goal.
