Iran mourns as Khamenei’s funeral plans unfold

Tehran (Lord Media): Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral proceedings are ongoing, with the main funeral prayer scheduled for Sunday in Tehran. Authorities have heightened security nationwide during the seven-day mourning period, with various ceremonies continuing until July 9.

To accommodate attendees, 5,000 schools and 40,000 to 50,000 classrooms across the country have been opened for the funeral prayer. Over 10 million people, including representatives from approximately 100 countries, are expected to participate.

An initial condolence ceremony took place at the Imam Khomeini Musalla in Tehran, where thousands of mourners paid their last respects to the deceased’s coffin. According to officials, a two-day public farewell event will be held on July 4.

The funeral procession is set to begin on the morning of July 5 and is expected to continue until the evening. A procession will also take place in Qom on July 7, with Ayatollah Khamenei’s burial scheduled for July 9 in Mashhad.

The Iranian government has fully mobilized security agencies for this occasion. A public holiday has been declared for July 6, and July 8 has been designated as a day of mourning.
