Amsterdam (Lord Media): The Netherlands Football Federation has decided to pursue legal action following the racial abuse faced by its players after their exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The federation has officially lodged a complaint with the prosecutor’s office.
According to media reports, after their defeat by Morocco, black players from the Netherlands team were subjected to racially charged messages on social media. The federation stated that while identifying the hate messages is challenging, it has made it clear that racist behavior will not be tolerated.
In the World Cup’s Round of 32, the Netherlands was defeated by Morocco in a penalty shootout. The match ended 1-1 after regular and extra time, but the Dutch players missed their chances in the penalties.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten also condemned the incident, stating that players are hailed as national heroes in times of success, but a hate campaign over a single mistake is unacceptable. He expressed hope that the prosecution will take action against those responsible.
