Lahore (Lord Media): Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced that interviews will be conducted for the first time for the appointment of judges in the high court. Speaking at an event in Lahore, he emphasized the importance of rule of law and compliance. A policy is being formulated for the treatment of lawyers and their families, while the Punjab Bar Council is making better arrangements for lawyers.
Azam Nazeer Tarar revealed that a seven-member committee has been formed to interview the proposed candidates for judge appointments. He questioned why interviews should not be conducted for high court judges when exams are held for civil and additional session judges.
He further stated that for the first time, a constitutional system is being introduced to evaluate judges’ performance. The Judges Evaluation Committee will review the performance of judges at the end of each year. If a judge’s performance is found lacking, the committee may refer the matter to the Judicial Commission.
