Washington (Lord Media): The United States has eased travel restrictions on Iran’s football World Cup team, allowing them entry two days before their next match. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the Iranian squad will be permitted to enter the U.S. ahead of their game against Egypt on Friday.
Despite the relaxation, the team must return immediately after the match, as stated by the Department of Homeland Security. The Iranian team is set to travel from Tijuana, Mexico, to Seattle on Wednesday.
The White House FIFA Task Force noted that the decision to relax travel restrictions was based on the team’s performance in their first two outings. Previously, the U.S. had denied Iran’s request for the team to enter the country two days before their FIFA World Cup match.
The Iran Football Federation has expressed that the restrictions have hindered the team’s preparations, citing a five-hour delay due to security checks when traveling from Mexico to the U.S. before the match.
