Lahore (Lord Media): The Punjab government has decided to implement digital monitoring of marriage halls and restaurants to combat tax evasion. During a meeting on Punjab revenue chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, emphasis was placed on making the tax collection system digital and transparent. The government announced the installation of modern camera systems to oversee marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and major food chains.
The meeting discussed making digital payments mandatory in some restaurants instead of cash, and strict action will be taken against those issuing fake receipts and concealing sales. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that a zero-tolerance policy will be adopted against tax evasion, and monitoring through modern camera systems will make the tax system more effective.
A revenue target of 528.5 billion rupees has been set for the fiscal year 2026-27, while it was briefed that the Punjab Revenue Authority’s collection has increased from 250 billion rupees to 346 billion rupees, marking a 38% increase. The jurisdiction of the Punjab Revenue Authority has been expanded from 10 to 26 districts, and intelligence and investigation, taxpayer audit, and legal wings have been established within the organization.
The Chief Minister instructed that the PRA be equipped with modern technology, enforcement and human resources be enhanced, and the media wing be made more active for tax awareness.
