ISLAMABAD (LORD): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced the successful conclusion of the first High-Level Committee meeting held under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, saying the talks produced significant progress toward a final agreement between the United States and Iran.

According to the prime minister, discussions were conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere and resulted in agreement on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final deal within 60 days. The participants also agreed to establish a High-Level Committee to provide political oversight and to begin further technical-level negotiations.

Sharif commended the leadership of both the United States and Iran for their continued commitment to constructive engagement and thanked friendly and brotherly countries for supporting the diplomatic process.

He particularly expressed gratitude to Qatar for what he described as its critical role in creating conditions that enabled the negotiations to move forward, and also thanked the Swiss government for facilitating the talks.

The prime minister paid special tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying his efforts, dedication and perseverance were instrumental in advancing the negotiations and achieving progress.

Sharif also praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and officials of the Foreign Office for their diplomatic efforts, while acknowledging the contribution of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to the success of the talks.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and diplomacy, the prime minister said the country would continue to play an honest and sincere role in promoting dialogue and supporting efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution through negotiations.
