Senate blocks IT, PTA bills for review

Islamabad (Lord Media): Pakistan Peoples Party leader Senator Sherry Rehman has clarified that no IT, PTA, or Right of Way bill will be approved in the Senate without thorough parliamentary scrutiny. She stated that the controversial bill from the National Assembly retained several harsh and unacceptable provisions, including Clause 27A, prompting its referral to the standing committee.

Rehman emphasized that while Pakistan is not against fiberization, compromising on private ownership and right of way is unacceptable. She expressed her commitment to opposing heavy fines and extraordinary administrative powers.

The senator asserted that there is no need to rush the bill’s approval and it will not be passed until all concerns are addressed. She also stressed the necessity of public hearings to build public trust in the bill.

She further stated that private ownership is a fundamental constitutional right, and clauses affecting it will not be accepted. The same amendments will be reintroduced in the standing committee, with no change in stance.
